In this litigation, Mark Collins represented police officer Kam Lee who, while attempting to arrest a much larger young male, shot and killed Mr. Lewis. The Plaintiffs' claim was one of police brutality, in that the belligerent Mr. Lewis was unarmed at the time the weapon discharged. There were a multitude of associated allegations, including racial discrimination, the violence of Civil Rights, and claims that this was an intentional execution by Officer Lee. The Federal District Court verdict supported Officer Lee. Mr. Collins was able to establish that the weapon accidentally discharged when Lee was holding his weapon in one hand, while attempting to turn the struggling escapee onto his stomach.
