In this tragic shooting, the Law Offices of Collins & Schlothauer were retained to represent the Defendant police officer. Sgt. Kevin Austin was dispatched to the scene of a crime where a young male, who was under the influence of PCP and other street drugs, was last seen breaking through a window and entering a residence. While inside the house, Officer Austin was threatened by the descendent who grabbed a large butcher knife and continued advancing toward the officer. The parents of the young man brought a civil action for the alleged wrongful death of their son. Attorney Collins was able to establish that the officer followed all appropriate procedures and fired his weapon only in self-defense.
